OH NO! NOT PLEURISY!

My wife has been suffering from a bad cold (just like EVERYBODY!) and has come down with Pleurisy. It sounds a lot worse than it is, although she’s having a tough time taking deep breaths. It’s not uncommon to have a slight inflamation of the lungs from coughing and she’s just resting and taking OTC pain killers. Amy thought it sounded like an Old Tyme Disease and it turns out it IS on a list of diseases from back in the day. Thank goodness she doesn’t have Diary Fever, Extravated Blood, The Screws, or Grocer’s Itch…check out the list of illnesses from back in the day…

HAPPY SIBLINGS DAY!
I want to wish MY siblings Jack, Linda, Marty, and Rosie a VERY happy Siblings Day today. I’m the baby of my family and so is Amy. Bothers and sisters ALWAYS have your back. Here’s a great shot of her and her sister Jenifer…

WHERE’S THE BUFFALO WINGS???
Playboy” (I read it for the articles) put together a list of each state’s signature food or drink by surveying people on Reddit.

1.  A lot of states made safe, traditional picks . . . and we mean that as a compliment.
Like, Pennsylvania correctly picked cheese steaks . . . New York picked bagels . . . Kentucky picked bourbon . . . Michigan picked Coney dogs . . . Illinois picked deep dish pizza . . . Louisiana picked gumbo . . . and Texas went with Tex-Mex.

2.  Oregon went with beer . . . they’re really staking their claim as the craft brewery capital of the U.S.  Wisconsin also went with beer, which is fine . . . they’re staking their claim as the NON-craft brewery capital. But for some reason Delaware picked beer too.  If you know beer, Dogfish Head Brewery was one of the first craft beer companies to go up against Bud, Miller, and Coors.  But maybe they just couldn’t think of anything else?

3.  California went with In-N-Out Burger, which is a MUCH better choice than the stereotypical “organic Vegan Ethiopian-Vietnamese fusion.”

4.  Surprisingly, only two states went with barbecue:  Kansas and Alabama.  Although North Carolina went with pulled pork, and Tennessee went with ribs.

5.  TWO states went with Rocky Mountain oysters . . . which are bull testicles.  So good call, Montana and Colorado?

6.  But the saddest pick of all goes to Arkansas, which went with “meth cookies.”  We looked it up, to see if that’s like a name for a blue dessert or something . . . but it’s not.  They really picked big old chunks of meth as the signature state food.

NEW MOVIES THIS WEEKEND
Here’s what’s opening this weekend in theaters:

1.  “The Longest Ride”  (PG-13)
Scott Eastwood stars in the latest movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel.  He plays a champion bull rider who falls for a college student while making his comeback. She’s played by Britt Robertson from “Under the Dome”, and she has second thoughts about his dangerous career after meeting Alan Alda.  She reads his wife’s old letters to him in the hospital, and we see their life together during World War II. Jack Huston from “Boardwalk Empire” plays Alda’s character in those flashbacks and Oona Chaplin from “Game of Thrones” plays the younger version of his dead wife.

2.  “Ex Machina”  (R)
Oscar Isaac runs a company that’s created an artificial intelligence named Ava.  He brings one of his employees to a remote location and tells him he’s the human element of a Turing test to assess her capabilities and see if she’s self-aware or not. Beautiful Swedish actress Alicia Vikander is the A.I. and Domhnall Gleeson is the guy who falls for her.  You may know him as the oldest brother of Ron Weasley in the “Harry Potter” movies. And the guy who plays Mad Eye Moody is his dad. It’s Oscar and Domhnall’s first time working together, but they’re also both in the next “Star Wars” movie “The Force Awakens”.

These films are in limited release:

3.  “Clouds of Sils Maria” (R) (Limited)
Juliette Binoche plays an actress who agrees to remake a lesbian drama she’d starred in 20 years earlier, where she was a scheming young girl manipulating the older woman who falls in love with her. Only now she’s got the older role and it’s Chloe Grace Moretz messing with her head in the younger part.  Kristen Stewart is in it as Juliette’s personal assistant . . . and there’s a bit of sexual tension between them too.

4.  “Desert Dancer” (PG-13) (Limited)
Reece Ritchie and Frieda Pinto risk their lives to be in an underground dance company in Iran, where it’s illegal to dance.  They learn to dance by watching banned videos of legendary dancers like Gene Kelly, Michael Jackson, and Rudolf Nureyev. You’d know Ritchie as The Rock’s buddy, Iolaus, in his “Hercules” movie.

5.  “Sisterhood of Night” (PG-13) (Limited)
Georgie Henley and her friends are accused of Satanic rituals when they sneak to the forest at night and take themselves off Facebook.  You know her from the “Chronicles of Narnia” movies. Kal Penn is also in it as the school’s concerned guidance counselor.

6.  “Kill Me Three Times” (R) (Limited)
Simon Pegg plays a professional hitman in a convoluted story of adultery and murder.  The rest of the cast includes Teresa Palmer, Alice Braga, and the third Hemsworth brother . . . LUKE Hemsworth . . . the older brother of Chris and Liam. You know Liam as Gale in “The Hunger Games” and Chris as Thor in “The Avengers”. Sadly, this movie will NOT make Luke a household name. It’s getting slammed by critics.
