Olivia Rodrigo welcomed Alanis Morissette to the stage for a surprise performance of Ironic during the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California, on August 29.
During the set, Rodrigo introduced Morissette after Karen O was unable to appear because of a personal matter. The two singers then performed Morissette’s 1995 hit together, giving one lyric a playful update by changing beautiful wife to beautiful husband.
The collaboration also reflected Rodrigo’s well-known admiration for Morissette and her landmark album Jagged Little Pill. Their connection is not new. The pair previously shared the stage during Rodrigo’s Sour tour, where they performed You Oughta Know together.
Daisy Chain Fields was organized and headlined by Rodrigo as a women-led music festival. The event also included a charitable component, with fundraising efforts supporting organizations focused on women and girls.
The surprise appearance gave the festival an added cross-generational pop moment, bringing together two artists whose music has connected strongly with young audiences in different eras.
