HERE IS CHRISTINE'S STORY:
Christine Tucciarone is a loving and devoted mother of two who lives in Cicero, NY and graduated from Chittenango High School in 1987. She is our friend and co-worker.
In early December of 2012 Christine had sudden onset of severe pressure in her head, vomiting and stiffness in her neck. Described as "the worst headache of her life". After many hours with no relief of these symptoms, she was rushed to the ER and immediately admitted to the hospital. After many tests, she was diagnosed with an Arteriovenous Malformation in her brain. Also known as AVM. An AVM is an abnormal tangling of veins and arteries that interfere with the body's ability to circulate blood. AVM's are thought to be due to abnormal development of blood vessels in utero and are present since birth. Many who have an AVM may never be aware that they have one but some will show symptoms like Christine experienced. She did suffer a small bleed which has left her with weakness in her lower extremities as well as tingling sensations throughout her left side. Every day is a struggle for her with headaches (pressure in her head) as well. Others may experience strokes, seizures, a bleed, and/or even death. She is also at risk for these symptoms as well until further treatment is performed. Christine has endured several procedures and trips to the ER. Her next procedure is the Gamma Knife Radiation which is a 2 to 3 year awaiting period to see if it was a success to rid of the AVM. Due to several procedures and trips to the ER, the medical bills are enormous and are causing a significant hardship for her and her family. Please come out and support her in offsetting some of her medical expenses. She also wants this benefit to make others aware of what an AVM is and as well as others to be aware of the symptoms so they can get the medical attention they are in need of quickly.
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATIONS!!!!
