IT'S SLUMBER PARTY WEEKEND!!!
93Q Ted & Amy Blog
10:32AM February 22, 2013

WOW!!!  It's FINALLY here. Tonight and tomorrow night at the Doubletree Hotel, it's the 10th Anniversay Amy's Slumber Party, and we managed to come up with ONE final room to give away this morning. Congratulations to Sandy Silky who solved this morning’s virtual treasure hunt to win a Saturday night room to the Slumber party.  Here were the clues:

The city of Syracuse
Is home to this place
Remember it’s a virtual treasure hunt
So don’t show your face

It’s pretty cold outside
This time of year
So odds are
You won’t slumber here

Though not well known
It is a familiar name
Travel to the West Side
And you could win this game!

If you want to take a guess
Then get in line
Down the hill from the zoo
You’ll find this sign

On Washington’s birthday
You’ll need to cross the Delaware
But if you see Seymour
Then you’ve gone too far

It was taped to the Amy Street road sign in the city!

TOBY KEITH’S IS OPEN!
The highly anticipated opening of Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill is here. The entertainment and dining venue on the third level of Destiny USA is now open. There are currently 12 Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill locations in the United States, from Las Vegas to Foxborough, MA with six anticipated openings in 2013, including Syracuse, NY.  The restaurants reach a broad demographic of country as well as mainstream music lover. “We have been inundated with questions and comments about the opening of Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill and I am thrilled to say that they are now open,” Rob Schoeneck, Destiny USA’s General Manager, stated. “The restaurant came out beautifully and we are excited to see this venue filled and full of fun this weekend.” Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill is located on the third floor of Destiny USA and encompasses 20,000 square feet of space.  It is owned and operated by Boomtown Entertainment, LLC. This is the restaurant group’s first location in New York State; Destiny USA’s site includes retail space, a full restaurant menu, and private and semi-private booths adjacent to a live entertainment stage. The restaurants are also known for their fun atmosphere, the Whiskey Girls, beer in mason jars, and, of course, Toby’s signature dish, the fried baloney sandwich. There is entertainment all week long with live music, plasma TV screens, private rooms for parties or corporate events, as well as a 95-foot guitar shaped bar. Jason Wicks Band, a country music band, is scheduled to perform tonight at 9:00pm. You had me at fried baloney sandwich...

CAN IT DAY AT THE DOME!
Fans will not only get an opportunity to watch a thrilling men’s basketball game between the Syracuse Orange and the Georgetown Hoyas tomorrow, in the Carrier Dome. They will also have the chance to help combat hunger in the local community. “Can It!” is a University-wide interfaith initiative that kicks off on campus this month to collect canned food and monetary donations for the Food Bank of Central New York. The initiative is part of the Better Together: President’s Interfaith and Community Service Challenge in which SU is participating. Donations of canned goods will be collected at the 4 p.m. game. Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring donations, which may be deposited in collection receptacles at the gates upon entry. Monetary donations may also be made at the gates or in the backcourt during and after the game. SU students may also donate canned goods in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center Tuesday, Feb. 19, through Thursday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Collection receptacles will be available in the Schine Atrium. Canned goods will be available for purchase in the SU Bookstore. Last year, the first year of the Can It! initiative, 1,370 pounds of food (enough for 1,083 meals) and $2,560.13 (including a $1,000 donation from PriceWaterhouseCoopers was collected. The food was distributed to 268 emergency food program partners—food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters—in the Food Bank’s 11-county service area. Organizers are hoping to set a new record for donations this year. “Syracuse University is proud to bring together campus and community in the fight against hunger,” says Tiffany Steinwert, dean of Hendricks Chapel. “Part of the President’s Challenge for Interfaith and Community Service, Can It! is an annual opportunity to embody the challenge’s motto, ‘Better Together.’ We recognize the importance of collective, community action in addressing our most pressing social needs. Together we can beat hunger.” “As an alumnus from Syracuse University, I am proud that their students continue to demonstrate a commitment to the broader community,” says Thomas Slater, executive director of the Food Bank of Central New York. “Together, we are making an impact in addressing the growing problem of hunger in our community.” Items in need include: canned tuna; canned vegetables; canned/dried fruits; canned beans/legumes; dried beans/legumes; peanut butter; pasta/rice/grains; cereals; oatmeal; and soups/stews. For more information on the Can It! food drive or Better Together initiatives on the SU campus, contact Steinwert at 443-2902 or chapel@syr.edu or visit the Better Together Syracuse Facebook page.

OSCARS SUNDAY NIGHT
!It's almost here: the Oscars. The ceremony -- officially known as the 85th Academy Awards until recently -- will be presented Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.

Seth MacFarlane will host ABC's live telecast, which begins 8:30 p.m. Eastern time and 5:30 p.m. Pacific time. It will be preceded by the network's hour-and-a-half red carpet special.

Frequent Oscars host Billy Crystal believes MacFarlane will be more than capable in that role. Crystal says, "He should have fun and be prepared for anything. The job is a big job, and you have to have muscle and be experienced because anything could happen there. And I think he'll do a good job."

Steven Spielberg's historical drama Lincoln is the leading nominee. It has 12 nods, including best picture and best director for Spielberg. The film's stars, Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones, are nominated in the acting categories.

Life of Pi trails Lincoln with 11 nominations.

The Ben Affleck thriller Argo has won several major awards in recent weeks and has emerged as the front-runner to take the best-picture Oscar. There are nine nominees for the top prize: aside from Argo, Lincoln and Life of Pi, they include Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty, and the French-language film Amour.

Day-Lewis is considered a shoo-in to win the best-actor Oscar for his performance as President Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln. His competition is Denzel Washington, nominated for Flight; Hugh Jackman, for Les Miserables; Bradley Cooper, for Silver Linings Playbook; and Joaquin Phoenix, for The Master.

The best-actress race essentially boils down to two women: Jennifer Lawrence, who's a contender for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, and Jessica Chastain, who's nominated for Zero Dark Thirty. But there's another interesting name in the mix: nine-year-old Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane (Kuh-VAHN-zuh-nay) Wallis, the youngest-ever actress nominee. The Impossible star Naomi Watts and Amour actress Emmanuelle Riva -- who turns 86 on Oscar night -- round out the field.

The best-director category is as notable for the snubs as it is for its nominees. MIA: Affleck, Zero Dark Thirty's Kathryn Bigelow and Les Miserables' Tom Hooper. The most recognizable nominees are Spielberg, Life of Pi's Ang Lee and Silver Linings Playbook's David O. Russell.

Announced presenters for the telecast include Affleck, Chastain, Lawrence, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Jane Fonda, Jennifer Garner, Kristen Stewart, Kerry Washington, the cast of 2003 best-picture winner Chicago, and more.

During the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will salute the James Bond franchise, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Adele will perform her Oscar-nominated Bond theme, "Skyfall," from the movie of the same name.

A special edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live will air after the Oscars, with guests Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum. It will include a sequel to the star-studded spoof trailer "Movie: The Movie," which debuted during Jimmy Kimmel's 2012 Oscars special. Cooper, Chastain, Jude Law, Salma Hayek, John Krasinski and Samuel L. Jackson are among the many celebrities who will appear in the trailer "Movie: The Movie Twovie."
