...AND THE WINNER IS...

Election Day is over and the ballots have been counted! Congratulations to the NEW Mayor of Syracuse Stephanie Miner! The common councilor's win over Republican Steve Kimatian and Conservative Otis Jennings make her the first female mayor in the city's history. I'm blown away by the fact that Stephanie Miner is only the 53rd Mayor that Syracuse has ever had. The big race up north for the 23rd Congressional district was won by Democrat Bill Owens. That race marked by, what some would call, negative campaign ads. (Thanks Nancy!) Elsewhere, a couple of upsets locally. Cicero Town Supervisor Chet Dudzinski was defeated by Democrat Judy Boyke and Common Councilor Michael Heagerty was defeated by 23 year old Matthew Rayo in the 1st District. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SESAME STREET!
This month Oscar the Grouch, cookie monster, big Bird, Bert & Ernie, elmo and all the gang from Sesame Street trun 40 years old! November 10th is the exact date the show first aired on PBS. Part of the celebration includes First Lady, Michelle Obama guesting on their first episode…and Big Bird will appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Sadly, I can not count myself among the many who grew up watching Sesame Street. Not because I didn't like the show. i grew up in Marcellus, and our local PBS channel, WCNY, couldn't really penetrate the valley with their UHF signal. We couldn't really get channel 9, either. Oh sure, now there's cable and satellite TV. Back then, I could only watch Capt. Kangaroo and Magic Toy Shop. Those were good shows, too, but no Kermit the Frog! Happy Birthday sesame Street!
